Godot Adventure Engine (GAE)
A downloadable tool

Godot Adventure Engone (GAE)— a point & click adventure engine for Godot 4
Remember the LucasArts adventures and the games made with AGS? GAE is an engine that brings that tradition into Godot 4. You write the story like a script, build rooms as ordinary Godot scenes and play right away.
The download includes the complete engine and Il Segreto del Faro (The Secret of the Lighthouse), a short adventure in Italian to play and to take apart to see how everything works.
Write like a screenwriter
With AdvScript a scene reads like a film script:
on use chiave on porta:
nina: Proviamo...
state porta aperta
inventory remove chiave
nina: Si è aperta!
The language handles dialogue lines, walking, inventory, variables, conditions, skippable cutscenes and random or rotating lines.
You don’t even need a line of code: the inspector is enough.
Everything you expect from a classic adventure
- Monkey Island–style dialogue trees, with one-time, hidden and conditional options
- Walkable areas with obstacles, shortest-path walking and perspective scaling
- AGS-style walk-behinds: columns and railings that hide characters passing behind them
- Three ready-made interfaces: modern two-click, the nine SCUMM verbs, or an AGS-style icon bar
- Saves, menus, settings, Tab hints and a “Choose scene” menu
- Crisp pixel-art fonts, title-screen music and a splash screen
Prototype without art
No sprites yet? The engine draws animated mannequins for characters, flat colors for rooms and placeholders for items. You can test the story before drawing it.
Tools for developers
- An Avventura tab in the Godot editor, with a game tree, a script editor with highlighting and completion, and wizards for new rooms, characters and items
- Automated tests: the game’s walkthrough is a file replayed after every change, so the game always stays solvable
- An error checker that reports file and line, and asks “did you mean...?”
- GDScript is always there when you need more power
Have you already started working with AGS?
No problem! GAE includes an importer for AGS 3.x projects that brings over rooms, scripts, sprites, and interfaces. Everything you created in AGS will be waiting for you in Godot.
And if something is missing... just ask in the console or in Claude Code, and it will be recreated exactly as it was.
Made to work with Claude Code
The project includes an MCP server and a guide for Claude Code. Claude can write rooms and puzzles, check them, play a text-based session and look at screenshots of the game.
